Compilation album originally released in the US & Canada by Capitol Records in 1966.
This release is notorious for its controversial original cover photograph, known as the "Butcher Cover".
The initial response to the cover from the estimated 60,000 advance copies was so negative that Capitol recalled all 750,000 manufactured copies from its distributors for repackaging with a more conventional photograph.
Butcher covers are generally divided into 3 categories:
First state - Original unaltered version.
Second state - First state cover with the new artwork pasted over (generally known as a "Trunk Cover").
Third state - A second state copy where the pasted-on Trunk cover image has been (fully or partially) removed, revealing the Butcher cover photograph underneath.
The notoriety and scarcity of the Butcher cover has made it one of the most expensive and sought-after Beatles releases.
A first state Butcher cover (without the actual record) previously owned and autographed by Ringo Starr was sold at an auction in 2015 for $25,600.

The other reviewers are correct: true-stereo all the way through; squeaky door on "Yesterday". The three 'Revolver' tracks that appear in fake stereo on most pressings appear in unique U.S. stereo mixes on this one. Just a beautiful sounding record. -

Why is this release limited to 3rd state (peeled) covers?! 3rd State covers were 2nd State at some point. Surely there are price differences between the two as un-peeled covers are getting more rare. It makes no sense to group these two together! There should either be one listing for each, or one release that encomes them both without limiting it to 3rd state. Otherwise there is no way to accurately assess the value. -
Unique stereo mixes of I'm Only Sleeping and Dr. Robert, which can't be found anywhere else.

WOW....Picked up this pristine copy recently at my local Goodwill for $5. Soundstage on the mono is much better than my 1970 stereo Japanese RED copy. Anyone else have an opinion on these early stereo releases?

Interesting record. The American releases have always fascinated me. Nonetheless great tracklist, The mixes aren't really my cup of tea. But it is always nice hearing new mixes and to be frank quite refreshing. Definitely not a bad record. i recommend getting a copy if you want something different and interesting. -

Funny thing about the previous comment. To say you can’t get a mint condition. Unlike Velvet Undergrounds banana peel, this one has to be not intact. So it’s kinda like a used scratch off? Sorry for my misunderstanding but it’s seems like that. -

My copy says ESTEREO on the cover and on the disc but is mono. I don't know if all of these specific pressings are like this or if mine is a fluke.
Additionally I don't know if these are dedicated mono mixes or are fold downs. Sound quality on my disc is average to ok. I'm not disappointed at all. It sounds good. Despite this, I have heard better sounding pressings.
What drew me to buying this pressing was the fun alternate rear album art -
My copy plays perfectly and at the correct pitch.

This "Epic Hit Pops" thing was a series, some entries are compilations, others are copies of entire albums like this. It is the only Korean pirate label I've seen which attempts to obscure its origin, claiming to be from Canada. Why they did this is beyond me as it was not exactly frowned upon to release pirate albums in Korea back then. Many pirate copies at the time even got tax stamps showing they ed the basic government process to release an album.
Too bad they didn't use the butcher cover - there actually are some Korean pirate pressings that have it (based on the 80s US reissues) but not in colour.
