Edited one year ago1st copy was noisy as hell. 2nd copy is two edge warped discs but clean, centered and quiet. Now the mastering can shine through. Well worth the £17 i paid on the 2nd attempt!

My copy has light static throughout side A. Very noticeable on Peace and Love. AT120 w AT VMN95ML Stylus. Otherwise mixing, mastering, and such are on point.

Edited 2 years agoOverall, a mostly great pressing of another terrific LP from the Chili Peppers! Who would have expected two brilliant albums of music in one year, and another dozen finished tracks still sitting on the shelf! Hopefully they release those, too!
My only qualm with this pressing is a pesky scratch from production across D2, which is visible from the start of the track to about midway, and results in audible intermittent flicking right around halfway through the track, which I found present on three seperate copies of this LP. I’ve given up trying to source a copy without this defect, and a couple light non-fill scrapes here and there, but overall pretty damn good! -

Disc 1 is perfect, disc 2 has non-fill throughout. I've never had a problem with Optimal pressings before. Hoping I can do an exchange. -
Edited one year agoHad to exchange both discs (disc 1 for Side A; disc 2 for side D) for the craziest distortion I've ever heard. I know it isn't the Chili's fault. I know it isn't Rubin's fault. Or Grundman's. So it has to be some sort of uncharacteristic QC failure at Optimal. Whatever. It can happen. Awaiting replacement. Ordered the gatefold because it's always my preference, but honestly it's the worst album art in my entire collection. Not sure what's up with that.
Non-optimal ressing flaws aside, wonderful recording, mixing and mastering. Flea is really enriching the whole modern RH output. Obviously, they wouldn't have much to begin with without Frusciante's signature songwriting and guitar work. Very happy with the album and pressing (after multiple exchanges). -
Beautiful analogue mastering. Great mix by Ryan Hewitt. Packaging design I really nice with the gatefold, wish they had better lined inner sleeves. -

The sound quality is as excellent as it is for Unlimited Love which is no suprise as it’s the same producer, same mastering engineer and same pressing plant. My copy has absolutely no surface noise or crackles at all, just 2-3 short non-fills on C2 and D1 which I will accept as otherwise it’s flawless. Shame they didn’t use poly-lined inners, though.

I’m just amazed that they can release ANOTHER studio album what, 6 months after Unlimited Love - which was the number 1 selling album in all countries… it’s mind boggling!
Great quality pressing, but paper sleeves again?! C’mon RH…
